DCI John Luther returns to work after the traumatic arrest of a serial killer, and his first case is to investigate the seemingly perfect murder of a former child genius's parents. However, everything is not as it first seems, and when Luther is unable to find evidence to convict, he becomes embroiled in a battle of wits with the suspect - who has set her sights on him and his estranged wife.

DCI Luther must outmanoeuvre a trained sniper on a mission to kill police officers. But as the body count rises and the killer's true motives are revealed, Luther puts himself in the line of fire to try and draw the killer into the open. Meanwhile, Alice Morgan has been investigating Luther's past - and is threatening to tell Zoe what she has discovered.

Episode 3

DCI Luther finds himself on the trail of Satanic occult killer, Lucien Burgess, who was previously accused of kidnap and murder but escaped charges due to police misconduct. However, with a young mother's life at stake, Luther must now use all his skills to build an airtight case and seeks out guidance from Alice. Meanwhile, Mark is beaten up by a gang of young girls, and Zoe discovers her feelings for Luther remain strong even after she doubts his integrity.

Episode 4

When a serial killer goes on the rampage, Luther must put his personal life aside and delve inside the murderer's mind to discover what is driving him to kill so many girls, and why. Meanwhile, serial killer Henry Madsen wakes up from his coma, and Alice takes matters into her own hands when Luther cuts off contact with her.

When an art dealer's wife is taken hostage, Luther leads a tense investigation as the hostage takers request payment in diamonds. However, what Luther doesn't know is that the case will soon become very personal.

Episode 6

Framed for murder, Luther turns to Alice for help as he sets outs to prove his innocence, and exact revenge on the real killer. But while the two plot, DCI Reed is quietly shoring up evidence against Luther, as the rest of the team are forced to hunt him down.

Still plagued by the death of his ex-wife, Luther returns to work to face a surreal and nightmarish case of a masked murderer determined to enter into folklore. As the body count rises, Luther must use all his skills to stop the killer, at the same time trying to rescue an old acquaintance's daughter from the dangerous world of prostitution.

Luther must rescue Ripley, abducted by Cameron, in time to prevent Cameron's final murderous set piece. But Jenny's ruthless and vengeful boss is demanding compensation for stealing her property. Luther is torn; will his visionary mind provide the team with the tools to save Ripley and the killer's intended victims, or will his focus be compromised?

As Luther's affection for Jenny grows, so does his determination to protect her and help get her back on her feet. Baba, however, is determined to keep Luther on a tight leash. To add to Luther's difficulties, he is called in to investigate a man whose brutal and escalating murders seem to have no motive, leaving Jenny alone and vulnerable.

Luther's personal and professional life spirals out of control as he tries to cover up Toby's death and appease a suspicious Baba. He must also protect Jenny from any further harm. At work there's also a killer at large whose actions are ruled by his dice. How do you stop a man who sees life and death as a game and whose actions can't be predicted?

Meanwhile, Ripley is introduced by embittered Erin Gray to creepy, "unretired" DSU George Stark, who is obsessed with proving that Luther has been taking the law into his own hands. Unaware of the looming threat, Luther considers a new romance with Mary Day after they literally bump into each other in the street.

Luther's date with Mary, and the promise of romance, is interrupted by the news of another murder. The killer has struck again - the number of victims is escalating fast. With his working relationship with Ripley rapidly deteriorating, Luther trawls through cold case files, determined to predict the killer's next move. Meanwhile, Erin Gray makes it clear to Luther that she is still pursuing him.

In what looks like a gangland crime - two hoodies are shot at close range while they were in the process of attacking a young couple. But when the team discover they have a vigilante killer at the beginning of a crusade walking the streets, Luther must confront his darkest demons in order to bring him to justice. Meanwhile, Gray and Stark visit Luther's new girlfriend Mary with a warning.

Marwood makes his vendetta personal - targeting Luther and those closest to him, and raining destruction on everything he touches. Stark and Gray arrive just in time to hurry Mary to a secret place, and then arrest Luther for murder. But with Gray's unease growing and Luther's escape from custody, is Mary's safety really Stark's priority, or is she just a pawn in his game to lure Luther into a confrontation?

On a leave of absence from the police force, Luther is laying low in a rundown cottage on the edge of England. But a visit from his old colleagues at the Met brings a shocking piece of news that draws him back to London in search of the truth.Meanwhile, a gruesome serial killer has struck the city, eating body parts as he goes. With a trail of clues leading from one crime scene to the next, Schenk and his team must work out the twisted logic that connects each victim. But this murdering mastermind is more than a match for the police, outsmarting them at every step. It's not long before Luther is back in the bullpen, determined to steal a march on the killer before another mutilated body joins the mounting pile.

Benny's hacking skills have revealed a list of hundreds of potential victims but, with a rapidly escalating number of crime scenes, Luther must use all his ingenuity to work out where the killer is headed next. Discovering it's all part of a macabre endgame, Luther is forced to put himself and his new colleague Emma into the heart of danger to try and stop the murdering madness.
